Mrs. Patalano asks a combination of facts-based and higher level question. She seems to lean towards more higher level question. Although the students don't always answer the higher level question and give her this blank stare. She also tries to get the students to use what they know to make informed opinions about different lab demonstrations. She tries to get them to actually think about what they are looking at instead of randomly guessing. She quite often asks for evidence in explaining their thinking. THe most recent example is with a density lab. She has a jar of marbles and the students have to guess at ho many are in the jar. However, they cant just tell her x number of marbles. She requires a calculation for it. I have not yet seen a classroom discussion her class. Mrs.Patalano often varies the questioning in her classes depending on their "level".
Reflections:
I believe that Mrs. Patalano's method of questioning is appropriate for the class. I will be using a similar strategy. However, I want to look into using more classroom discussion I feel as though I need to do some more research on the topic.
